Plant Noise Complaint Resolution Best Practice: online workshop

smartphone ID fan remote noise control
Thank you for your inspiring and hopefully game changing plant noise investigation training last week. Claire Michell: EHO, S Glocs
An amazing insight into the world of noise issues, considerations and mitigation, some of which relate so much to cases I have dealt with in the past… Principle EHO.

Workshop Benefits

  • Health and stress: delays in resolving complaints needlessly expose people to stressful environmental noise for months or even years. These delays can easily be avoided.
  • Regulator resources: take away techniques that EHOs and EA staff can apply to save time and valuable resources by using innovative noise app recording and simple, free analysis tools.
  • Industrial noise sources; fans, heat pumps, boilers...: ineffective or unnecessarily expensive noise control measures are often recommended in consultant noise reports due to a lack of diagnosis and a franky abysmal knowledge of modern noise control technology. Swapping these for low-cost engineering alternatives lowers the bar for implementation - so it is implemented quickly.

Providing the results of the very simple complaint evaluation process coupled with BPM resources (examples) substantially reduces mitigation costs, making resolution more likely and much faster.

The 2 hour workshop webinar solution

narrow band tonal fan noise hum signatures

This short workshop in conjunction with RHE Global (The Noise App) is for EHOs and EA staff concerned with noise problems. It provides details of the practical (and usually free) technical tools that delegates can take and use to record and diagnose the causes of noise complaints quickly and accurately as in the example shown here. It includes:

  • the key subjective human psychological factors related to noise terminology that determine the likelihood of complaints
  • how to make best use of complainant audio from The Noise App or noise nuisance recorders
  • the free apps and/or full-fat FFT analysis software to extract the information you need from recordings in a fraction of the time…
  • how to diagnose the precise cause(s) of complaints from the noise signatures e.g. a specific fan, a transformer, a heat pump, a motor, a burner... This diagnosis is the key to determining the noise control options that are applicable.

The online workshop is based on audio and multimedia examples with case study examples of the most common noise sources. It also provides delegates the opportunity to get advice on past or current noise issues from engineers with decades of worldwide experience.

INVC Expertise

Recognised internationally as perhaps the authority on noise source analysis and control. Some of the procedures included in this workshop were provided to help the Irish EPA to update their guidance on environmental noise.

We train Environmental Agency staff and EHOs on noise and regularly contribute to CIEH and international noise conferences.

All course material is multi-media with matching course notes. Extensive use is made of video, recorded examples and case studies. All workshops are run by practising consultant engineers with special skills in training and many years of practical experience.
